What is Microsoft Dataverse?

Dataverse (formerly named the Common Data Service, Project Oakdale, or Dataflex) is a lightweight database built into the Power Platform that is easy to use and maintain. Dataverse lets organizations securely store and manage data that is used by specific business applications. Stored in the Cloud, your organization receives a basic set of tables covering many typical scenarios, but you can also create custom tables specific to your organization or industry and populate them with data by using Power Query (commonly used across Excel and Power BI). App makers in your organization can then use Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents to build applications that use this data – bringing rich metadata to drive business processes while ensuring data quality. Reduce the stress of data management and let Dataverse determine your storage needs for relational data. This integration with the Power Platform also improves insights with the built-in AI. Enhance your data analysis and process data more quickly through turnkey integration with Power BI.

Dataverse for Teams

Teams is becoming the center of collaboration, which makes Dataverse more powerful. Microsoft Power Platform integration with Microsoft Teams enables customers to tailor Microsoft 365 to their needs and empowers everyone to be a developer using low-code tools. Since Dataverse is within Teams, it utilizes existing compliance and security settings – with no DBA (database administrator software) needed. Dataverse provides access and security roles granted automatically through Teams membership but customizable by Teams owners. Such role types include owners, members, and guests.

Dataverse for Teams creates a single environment for each Microsoft Team where you create data, apps, chatbots, and workflows. That environment supports backups, point-in-time-restore, and disaster recovery. Dataverse supports relational data and includes capabilities to find, filter, and sort that data. This provides relational data storage, rich data types, enterprise-grade governance, and one-click solution deployment. This new functionality enables users to easily build applications and bots directly within Teams, empowering business users to rapidly respond to changing business needs and create custom solutions. Remove friction for users having to switch between multiple services and apps with an end-to-end experience. Create secure, integrated solutions with Microsoft Power Apps and support your workforce with intelligent bots using Microsoft Power Virtual Agents.

Power Platform Integration

With both the Power Apps App Studio and the Power Virtual Agents Portal embedded in Teams, users can now easily and quickly build apps and bots with drag and drop simplicity in Teams without switching applications. This will save your end-users time by automating routine tasks and taking advantage of the Power Platform to make informed and efficient business decisions.

All users can now easily create custom data tables that are Teams and scenario specific. This gives organizations the customization they need to perform efficiently in Teams. Knowing complex code is no longer a barrier for your end-users who want to automate! Your organization is now able to optimize your Teams processes, drive greater collaboration, and improve efficiency with a built-in low-code platform and low-code data storage. Data from Dynamics 365 is also stored within Dataverse, allowing you to quickly build apps that use your Dynamics 365 data and extend your apps with Power Apps.

Licensing

When using Dataverse for Teams, it is available as part of your Teams license. Dataverse is also becoming used by other Microsoft 365 Apps such as Project and limited access is included with these licenses. Standalone licenses for PowerApps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents include full Dataverse access to support these applications. In all cases, Dataverse supports up to 1,000,000 rows and delivers a robust set of capabilities for rapidly building no-code and low-code applications. You can build solutions with confidence, knowing that you can easily upgrade for additional capacity.
